SensoControl 8700psi Pressure Sensor

Why can’t I use an 8700 psi pressure measurement range for all my needs?

Answer

While SensoControl equipment is very accurate, especially when compared to mechanical gauges, the math matters.

Our 0.5% full-scale accuracy on an 8700 psi range sensor translates into a +/- 43.5 allowable psig tolerance at any measurement point in the service range. If this measurement device was used in a low-pressure system, then the available resolution of the measured values might be useless. For example, checking a 50 psig set point of pressure switch is near the limits of resolution for the 8700 psig unit. By comparison, using an 870 psig measuring range unit which has a +/- 4.35 psig tolerance range ensures that a useful measurement is available for the intended purpose in this situation.

When comparing a typical mechanical gauge with an 8700 psig range and a +/- 1.5% full-scale accuracy, the allowable tolerance is +/- 130.5 psig. The math demonstrates it is not a useful tool for checking or setting the pressure switch in this example.
