Voice of the Machine Mobile App Location Permissions (Android)

Why does the Voice of the Machine mobile app require my location?

Answer

The long answer is that every BLE (Bluetooth Low Energy) device (sensor) has a radio ID that is unique. On Android, Google has tied the app permission to “Grant us your Location” and it’s confusing, but once that’s granted, the app has access to the real radio IDs, along with GPS, WiFi SSIDs, etc. The short answer is that The ‘Location’ permission is required for Bluetooth Low Energy connections due to the sensor containing “user identifiable” information in the form of a serial number. We do not use GPS or Wifi SSIDs for the mobile app. No need to worry about your location being tracked.
